Blimpie, America's Sub Shop, Turns 50!

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --A giant 50-foot sub sandwich will invade the sidewalks of Scottsdale on Friday, April 4th when Blimpie®, (www.blimpie.com/50centblimpiebest/index.html), the iconic sub chain, celebrates its 50th birthday.

Blimpie Celebrates 50 Years!

The golden birthday bash kicks off at 10:30 AM, Friday, April 4th, with the unveiling of the 50-foot Blimpie sub. The sub is free to enjoy for anyone who stops by the Blimpie store located at 9120 E Indian Bend Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85250. All proceeds from this Scottsdale store's sales on April 4 will go to Phoenix Children's Hospital. The store will also be offering free samples of Blimpie cookies and eegee's frozen fruit slushes. Additionally that same day, all Blimpie stores nationwide will sell their regular-sized Blimpie Best® subs for just 50 cents to the first 200 customers at each location. The price point symbolizing and celebrating 50 years of amazing, freshly sliced subs.

"We're thrilled to celebrate our 50th birthday with America and want everyone to enjoy a 50 cent Blimpie Best sub as our thank you to our loyal customers who helped us grow this sub chain," said Steve Evans, vp of marketing for Blimpie. "So many of our customers grew up with Blimpie and now their children love us too. It's a brand that serves an amazing product, which allows us to both be timeless and evolve and grow with our guests."

Humble Beginnings
Fifty years ago, three high school friends set out to create the greatest sub sandwich on the planet. Once they had created their sub, they opened up a dictionary to find a name for it - something that would represent their delicious sandwich. In the dictionary they saw a picture of a blimp and magic struck - they named their sub a Blimpie. They soon opened their first Blimpie in Hoboken, NJ in 1964 and the rest is well, hoagie history. For a half century the Blimpie sub has become beloved by millions and the brand has grown to hundreds of locations around the globe.
