Spencer Fane Renews Lease In Downtown Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Spencer Fane, a full service business law firm based in Kansas City, announced plans to remain downtown by renewing its lease for at least another twelve years. The firm, which has called this area home for more than a century, plans to transform the space located at 10th and Walnut to meet the demands of its clients and growth plans.

Spencer Fane's 55,000 sq. ft. office space will undergo a complete renovation and expand in size to 63,000 sq. ft. Elements include the addition of a new conference center for client and social use as well as collaborative work space. The transformed space will allow the firm to grow in size, accommodate its collaborative business model and expand its reputation for exceptional client service. Nelson, a world-class architectural firm specializing in law offices, designed the new office space and Centric Projects Work, a locally based contractor involved in several downtown projects, will complete the construction. Work on the new space is slated to begin this spring and be completed by the start of 2015.

"We're thrilled to renew our commitment to downtown at the same time a new chapter is beginning at Spencer Fane," said Patrick Whalen, the firm's chairman. "We're certainly proud of the legacy we've built here and we are equally excited about what the future holds when it comes to evolution and prosperity for both Spencer Fane and downtown Kansas City."

The firm's decision comes at a time when Kansas City is primed to take advantage of the many investments made to make downtown thrive during the last decade. Spencer Fane's office will directly face the new streetcar line that is now underway and the office space is in the midst of the city's nationally known arts community. This was important to the firm, given its charitable focus on the arts and innovation.

"Spencer Fane's continued presence in downtown Kansas City, combined with their talent and vision, is further proof that creative professionals know a good thing when they see it and that is most certainly our downtown," said Mayor Sly James. "I'm excited to see this next chapter in Spencer Fane's legacy written in downtown Kansas City."

"This is our home, and it's home to businesses and institutions about which we care deeply," said Whalen.
