Fluor's Senior Vice President to Share Kitimat LNG Project Progress

LONDON, April 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

Earlier this year, Flour and joint venture partner, JGC, signed an Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contract with Chevron Canada Ltd and Apache Canada Ltd, to progress the long-running proposed Kitimat LNG export terminal, being developed in Bish Cove, British Columbia, Canada.

The awarding of the EPC marks a major milestone in the progress of the project, and underlines Canada's urgency and intent to develop and market the export of LNG from British Columbia to lucrative Asian customers across the Pacific.

In an exclusive interview, Phil Clark, Fluor's Senior Vice President and Project Director on the Kitimat project, shares his views on the challenges of getting Canadian LNG exports up and running:

"First of all I would say possessing strong relationships with both the client and other major stakeholders and owners really is a key, to make sure we are all communicating effectively, timely and accurately. Establishing strong relationships with the local communities in a place like Kitimat is really important, and particularly the First Nations - including Haisla - who is the owner of the land that the plants will be built on."

Clark's views will be expanded upon during Canada's leading LNG export gathering, the "Canada LNG Export Conference & Exhibition", which will be returning to Calgary on 16-18 September 2014, and is set to again welcome major operators, international stakeholders, first nations leaders, state government from British Columbia and Alberta, plus other key EPCs involved in the race to export LNG from Canada. Fluor are closely involved as sponsors and speakers.

The stakes are huge, and with many global players now racing to the finishing line the challenges will continue to require major cooperation between partners, as Clark points out:

"We need to make sure that all the partners are aligned and we have actually two joint venture partnerships; Chevron and Apache and also JGC - and Fluor are in two 'fifty-fifty' joint venture partnerships, so it's really important that we are fully aligned."
