Morrison & Foerster Towers Over Telecom Sector, Clients Tell BTI Consulting in Latest Survey of Law Firm Client Relationships

NEW YORK, April 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In its just-issued Client Relationship Scorecard for 2014, BTI Consulting Group named Morrison & Foerster to its highly select list of "Power Elite" law firms, a selection based on interviews with general counsel and other decision-makers at more than 500 leading companies.

In addition to being included on the list of Power Elite firms for overall client relationships, Morrison & Foerster was the only firm singled out as a "Powerhouse" in the telecommunications sector, the highest possible ranking. The firm performed so well as a telecom adviser that BTI declined to rank any firms in the second tier to demonstrate the gap between MoFo and all competitors - a singular accomplishment according to Michael Rynowecer, founder and president of BTI Consulting.

"MoFo just kind of stood above everybody else," Rynowecer told Law360, which reported the survey results. "They were just clearly and decisively head and shoulders above everyone else."

Beyond telecom, BTI recognized Morrison & Foerster as one of the top 12 firms for high-tech, and as a "leader," the highest ranking awarded, for financial services.

BTI evaluated how often firms were tapped as a company's go-to counsel and how likely clients were to recommend those firms - unprompted - to their counterparts and colleagues. BTI considers those measures key indicators of a firm's standing with purchasers of high-end legal services.

MoFo's strong showing in the telecom and technology categories reflects its ongoing, high-profile work for TMT giants, such as leading Japanese wireless company SoftBank. The firm has advised SoftBank on multiple billion-dollar M&A deals in the last several years, capped by its $21.6 billion acquisition of Sprint in 2013.

"We're thrilled to be included on BTI's list of Power Elite firms based solely on the strength of client relationships," said Morrison & Foerster Chair Larren Nashelsky. "It's gratifying that our clients recognize the intense focus of our lawyers in providing an unrivaled level of service and valued-added advice. Our strong showing across numerous sectors - particularly our standout performance in telecom and technology - reflects just how tightly our client service ethos is woven into the MoFo culture."

The firm is also noted as a best-in-class service provider to clients in banking, industrial manufacturing, professional services and electric utilities.

Morrison & Foerster has long been recognized as a global leader for its work for technology and telecom clients. For example, in addition to the BTI honors, Morrison & Foerster has been named Tech Firm of the Year two years running by U.S. News and Best Lawyers in their annual "Best Law Firms" report, which also is based on the feedback of clients. And the firm's work advising SoftBank in its highly complex and hotly contested acquisition of Sprint earned the firm top honors as Global M&A Deal of the Year in The American Lawyer's inaugural Global Legal Awards in 2013.
