HOLLYWOOD, Fla., April 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- This month not only marks Mother's Day for Michele Giordano, but also her 55th birthday, andshe will be celebrating the most precious gift of all-the kidney she will be receiving in a living-donor transplant from her 22-year-old daughter, Jenna. The 22-year-old is honoring her mother by giving her the gift of life.
"I feel incredibly blessed and happy to have someone who loves me so much," says the soon to be 55-year-old mom, Michele Giordano from Hollywood, Florida... "My angel daughter has given me a chance to get back my health, and most importantly the gift of life."
Dr. Michael J. Goldstein M.D., FACS Chief, Kidney Transplantation Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospitals Miami Transplant Institute will be the lead surgeon performing the procedure.
At 54, Michele Giordano has a loving husband, John Giordano and four great children. But she said the one thing she needs has threatened it all.
Once very active, Giordano said her life has been reduced to whatever energy she has left on any given day, which isn't much. The threat of dialysis is looming, or death.
"I had called my kids together at the beginning and said I didn't think I could accept a kidney from any of them. They were my babies, and I gave them life. I should be the one to give my life to them," Giordano said.
Giordano said her daughter, Jenna ended up being a perfect match, and would not take no for an answer.
"My Mom always puts everyone else first, so this is my chance to do something for her," Jenna said.
"I think she's courageous; I think she's a living angel. I just don't have enough ways to say, 'Thank you,' to her," Michele Giordano said.
Michele's husband, John J. Giordano, former owner of G&G Holistichealing and counseling who has spent over two decades helping to save the lives of those struggling with addiction, added, "I feel helpless not being able to save Michele's life, but am so grateful that we have such a courageous daughter who can."
Michele and Jennawent fortheir final blood tests last week. The surgery is scheduled for 5/14/14.
