The Spencer Educational Foundation is devoted to funding the education of tomorrow's risk management and insurance leaders. Since its founding in 1979, the foundation has awarded more than $5 million in scholarships and $2.2 million in grants to risk management students and academic departments.

"From the start, the Spencer Foundation's mission has been to stimulate, promote and encourage promising undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and part-time students of risk management and insurance disciplines," said Andrew Miller, the foundation's director of development. "Today, we are the leading organization for awarding scholarships to students and risk professionals.

"We are delighted to have Mr. North join our board, as he has been a strong supporter of our mission through the years. We look forward to his involvement with the foundation to advance industry education in the years to come."

"I am honored to be a part of such a distinguished organization and fully support the Spencer Foundation's mission," North said. "The future of our industry depends upon attracting and educating talented individuals who have a passion for the risk management and insurance principles the foundation embodies."

The educational and charitable organization was named in honor of the late Robert S. Spencer, who served as president of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) from 1977 to 1978. The foundation is an affiliate of the national RIMS organization and is supported by individuals, corporations, local RIMS chapters and fundraising events.
