Arup Americas Promotes 26 Senior Professionals to the Position of Associate

NEW YORK, May 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --Arup, a multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm with a reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable designs, announced today it has promoted 26 people to the position of associate. The individuals are located in in Arup's New York; Los Angeles and San Francisco, Calif.; Seattle, Wash,; Houston, Texas; Boston, Mass.; Washington D.C.; and Toronto, Canada offices.

Ibbi Almufti, SE, LEED AP is a structural engineer in the Advanced Technology + Research (AT+R) group in Arup's San Francisco office. Ibbi specializes in performance-based seismic engineering and risk assessment of complex and tall structures. His projects include the Transbay Tower, Las Vegas High Roller Observation Wheel, 181 Fremont Tower, Transbay Transit Center, and UCSF Medical Center.

Susan Ambrosini, AICP is an urban planner in Arup's New York office. She has ten years of experience focused on land use, urban design, transportation planning, and economic development, with a strong background in community planning and participation. Susan is adept at understanding residential, commercial and industrial land use issues and opportunities, utilizing her strong foundation in retail analysis, transit-oriented development, and housing policy.

John Barrot, PE, LEED AP is a fire engineer and serves as Fire and Life Safety practice leader in the New York office. Since joining Arup in 2006, John has worked on a broad range of projects across all markets. John serves on the Fire Code Committee for the American Council of Engineering Companies, Metro New York and regularly speaks at industry events.

Francesca Birks, LEED AP, is an Arup Americas Foresight & Research & Innovation Leader based in the New York office. She works with clients to develop foresight and innovation throughout their processes, services and people with a current emphasis on hospitality, education, healthcare and retail. She is the executive editor of Arup's first online magazine, Arup Connect, for the Americas.

Denis Blount, CTS-D, is an acoustician and audiovisual systems designer in the acoustic, audiovisual and theatre consulting team in Arup's Seattle office. Educated with a background in engineering and music, Denis is uniquely positioned at the intersection of acoustics, technology and architectural design. He has successfully lead multidisciplinary teams at Arup, and his innovative work in the SoundLab has advanced auralization and visualization capabilities for clients and design teams.

Dahlia Chazan, AICP, LEED AP, is an urban planner in Arup's San Francisco office, specializing in comprehensive planning, transportation planning, public participation, and transit-oriented development. She has more than ten years of experience serving public, private, and non-profit clients with a focus on identifying creative ways to use limited land resources to meet community desires, support transportation choices, and bolster economic development.

Yves-Leo (Leo) Dejoie, PE, CEM, CEA is a mechanical engineer in Arup's New York office. He has extensive professional engineering experience in the public and private sectors, specializing in all aspects of engineering design, project management and construction administration and management. He has more than 26 years of experience in the design of a wide range of educational, commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical and health care facilities.

Russell Fortmeyer, LEED AP BD+C, is an electrical engineer and sustainable technology specialist in Arup's Los Angeles office and the author of "Kinetic Architecture: Designs for Active Envelopes". Russell works to combine his skills as an engineer and writer specializing in sustainable design and architecture to achieve real change in the community.

Adam Friedberg, PE, LEED BD+C, ENV SP, is a sustainability consultant and environmental engineer in Arup's New York Office. Adam's background and experience provides clients with a range of sustainable and resilient solutions from green buildings to citywide energy and environmental strategies. He has worked on new and existing buildings, infrastructure, and planning and policy projects all over the world.

Duanne Gilmore, PE, ENV SP, is a civil engineer in Arup's LA office. He is currently the Lead Civil Engineer on the Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement Project in Long Beach, California. Duanne has worked internationally with multidisciplinary teams on various types of projects, including highway interchanges design, site development and grading, master plans, stormwater schemes, flooding analysis and the design of sanitary sewer, potable water and various dry utilities.

Michael Hovanec, PE, LEED AP, is a mechanical engineer and leads the mechanical group in Arup's Boston office. With more than thirteen years of professional experience in HVAC design, Mike's extensive portfolio spans a variety of building and project types including commercial, educational, cultural and research. Since joining Arup in 2010, he has demonstrated his expertise in implementing sustainable solutions for new and existing buildings.

Amit Khanna, PE, LEED AP, is a mechanical engineer in Arup's San Francisco office. He specializes in high performance buildings with particular focus on sustainable design in the science, technology, and education sectors. Throughout the past decade, he has worked on mission critical facilities and laboratory projects in the US and Asia, giving him a global perspective on sustainable design, execution, and operation of such facilities.

Eugene Lam, PE, STP, ENV SP, Associate DBIA, is a civil engineer in Arup's San Francisco office and has more than 15 years of experience for both public and private sector clients. He has been the project manager and civil engineering design lead on a number of high level, design-bid-build and design-build, multi-disciplinary projects, including urban and scenic highway and transit improvements with involvement ranging from conceptual design to detailed engineering.

Maciej Lambrych, CQM/OE, is the Arup Americas Management System Leader with more than ten years of experience in Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety Managements Systems. Throughout his career, Maciej has been key to implementing Arup management systems in a number of Arup offices and projects worldwide, including the US, Canada, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Serbia, Russia, Zimbabwe, South Africa.

Rebecca Maloney, CPSM, LEED AP joined Arup in 2008. She is communications leader for Arup in the Americas and BD team leader in the Boston office. Her remit includes marketing, communications, and business development strategy with a focus on firm visibility, positioning, and client relationships. Rebecca is a member of the BSA, NEWIRE, and is past president and a current board member of SMPS Boston.

Erin Morrow, AICP, RPP, LEED AP, is a transportation operations consultant in Arup's Toronto office. Erin has extensive knowledge of developing customized computational techniques for complex design problems and over a decade of experience in analyzing and predicting patterns of pedestrian behavior in large-scale systems and facilities. He is the inventor and product director of MassMotion, a set of crowd simulation tools for the design of transportation and buildings projects.

Arif Meric Ozkan, PE, SE, is a structural engineer in Arup's Los Angeles office. Arif has experience in the design of a variety of building types, including high-rise, mixed-use, commercial, residential, and cultural. He was a key member of the structural design team of the world's tallest building Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE and the world's next tallest building, Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, KSA.

Hemal Patel, CEng, is a civil engineer working in the Washington D.C, office. He has more than 13 years of experience in the preparation, assessment and construction supervision of road and infrastructure schemes in the US, UK, Europe, and Australia. He has worked with alternative forms of delivery such as Design Build and P3 on many projects.

Luis Piek, PE is a tunnel engineer in Arup's San Francisco office with 14 years of experience in underground projects worldwide. His work includes large diameter aqueducts, urban metro projects, roadway tunnels, and grouting and ground treatment. In his new role, Luis heads a team of tunnel engineers on the West Coast delivering underground engineering solutions to today's technically challenging projects.

Seth Pollak, PE, PG, is a tunneling engineer in Arup's Houston office with extensive design and site experience in underground construction works. Seth is involved in management and design roles for Arup and has contributed to several internal research collaborations; was published in Arup's 2010 Global Research Review; and has lectured to the Geological Society of London, Technical University of Graz, and Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering Geology (Singapore).

Darlene Rini, PE is a fire engineer in Arup's San Francisco office. She is a leading expert in the development and application of performance-based structural fire engineering design in the U.S. In addition, her portfolio spans a broad range of general fire engineering work with particular focus on large scale building projects (high rises, airports, arenas, museums, campuses), fire analysis of bridges, fire testing, and alternate methods of design.

Jimmy Su, PE, LEED AP, has more than19 years of professional practice in the Boston area. He serves as a senior engineer, bringing engineering and production experience working on projects locally and globally. Jimmy's broad range of experience includes structural renovations of recent and historic buildings. He has also engineered several new buildings for medical or university campuses with connecting elements to existing buildings.

Justin Trevan, CEng, is an Information & Communications Technology (ICT) Consultant in Toronto and leads the ICT team for Arup in Canada. His experience includes IT master-planning and governance definition, enterprise architecture, system integration management as well as the detailed design and specification of technology systems including IT networks and infrastructure, security systems, audio visual systems and radio/wireless systems.

Tom Wilcock, CEng, MICE, leads Arup's Advanced Technology and Research team in New York. He is a structural engineer with specialist expertise in the analysis of extreme events including blast and earthquake loading. Working from first principles Tom enjoys helping clients address their most complex technical problems. He has worked extensively on the delivery of specialist structures, including transport infrastructure, offshore platforms, renewable energy installations and super high-rise buildings.

Tom Yim, PE, CEM, LEED AP, is a mechanical engineer in Arup's San Francisco office. Tom specializes in designs for hospitals and central plants, and has design experiences including commercial kitchen HVAC, plumbing systems, and high-rise buildings. He has extensive experience coordinating between disciplines for complex buildings and has delivered via Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).

Becky Zegar, CPSM, joined Arup in 2012 and leads the business development and client care efforts in Arup's San Francisco office. Her focus is on client relationships and strategic positioning. She currently serves on the board of ULI San Francisco District Council and was previously on the board of SMPS SF chapter. She is also an active member of Corenet Northern California, serving on their programs committee and CREW.
