TechAmerica Applauds FCC Decision on TV White Space Spectrum

WASHINGTON, May 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In response to the Federal Communications Commission's Incentive Auction Report and Order, TechAmerica, the public sector and public policy division of CompTIA, issued the following statement.

TechAmerica Powered by CompTIA logo

"Today's FCC Incentive Auction Report and Order represents a significant victory for supporters of unlicensed spectrum and a welcome acknowledgement of the importance of low-band spectrum as a platform for innovation. The band plan presented in the order dedicates several channels for nationwide TV white space (TVWS) unlicensed use, and assures that plenty of unlicensed TVWS spectrum will continue to be available in rural areas. It also allows current users of the TVWS to occupy the spectrum until the new licensees actually begin operating in the bands.

"TechAmerica would like to thank the FCC, and particularly Chairman Wheeler, for their dedication to this cause and for bringing this order to fruition. This newly available unlicensed spectrum will bring countless new innovation opportunities, many of which haven't yet been conceived. We look forward to continuing to work with the FCC as they implement these and other rules making more spectrum available for unlicensed use."
