SEATTLE, May 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In the wake of the recent tragedy at UCSB and 72 school shootings across the country since the Newtown shooting, Carlee Soto - whose sister Victoria was killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School - will join with other gun violence survivors and gun owners in the Seattle community to discuss common-sense measures to reduce gun violence.
Speakers will discuss Initiative 594 - which aims to strengthen Washington State law by closing the loophole that allows people to purchase guns from private sellers and online vendors without a background check.
They'll also discuss how students can get involved to make their campus safer from gun violence. For example, Everytown for Gun Safety is launching the first ever 'Gun Sense Voter' campaign to educate and mobilize a million voters across the country to support lawmakers who vote in favor of measures to reduce gun violence.
There have been 18 shootings on U.S. college campuses this year.
