Zhone Technologies, Inc: Zhone Technologies Enables Connected Healthcare and Quad-Play Telecom Services for Residents in Senior Living Communities

Zhone Technologies Enables Connected Healthcare and Quad-Play Telecom Services for Residents in Senior Living Communities

Zhone helps ESCO Technologies give 20,000+ seniors access to an enhanced lifestyle across the U.S.

OAKLAND, CA - May 29, 2014 - Zhone Technologies, Inc. (http://www.zhone.com/) (NASDAQ: ZHNE), a global leader in fiber network access solutions (FTTx), today announced a new deployment with ESCO Technologies, LLC (http://www.careconnectbyesco.com/) that provides senior living facilities with state-of-the-art technology to enable better care and more independence for residents. According to The Fiscal Times (http://www.cnbc.com/id/101326818), there are 76 million baby boomers in the U.S. and the youngest of those will start turning 50 this year. As senior living communities grow to accommodate the aging baby boomer generation, ESCO Technologies is using Zhone's MXP-150, MXP-160 and MXK-VDSL Access Platform to provide a unique level of advanced broadband services to these communities.

"As the baby boomer generation continues to age, technology is the key to facilitating strong healthcare for residents in senior living communities," said Brian Caskey, chief marketing officer at Zhone Technologies. "Zhone's solutions allow ESCO's staff to quickly and easily change subscriber settings, keeping customers happy and satisfied. The end result is that residents know their service demands will be met immediately."

ESCO Technologies provides a solution called CareConnect(TM) for senior living communities that delivers modern technology to residents and is aimed at keeping them safe and happy. Amenities include telecom services such as Internet, phone and television, a connection to on-site activities, automatic integration with emergency staff, in-room computers for residents, as well as state-of-the-art emergency call systems. In order to deliver these perks to residents, ESCO Technologies needed a scalable but affordable solution that would provide telecom services to 20,000+ lines/subscribers in 26 states. Zhone's solution was chosen based on its small form factor, ease of deployment, functionality, technical support and affordability.

"Zhone's solutions have the ability to scale from very small to very large capacities, which made its products an attractive choice for ESCO Technologies as the company looked toward providing advanced services for senior living communities," said Jerry Grove, president and chief executive officer of ESCO Technologies, LLC. "Zhone was able to provide the flexibility needed to meet the unique needs of ESCO Technologies while making the advanced services that residents within the communities desired a reality for them."

Zhone continues to provide innovative access solutions, delivering voice, video and data services over copper and fiber. For more information on Zhone's FiberHome(TM) portfolio please visit http://www.zhone.com (http://www.zhone.com/).
