WASHINGTON, June 5, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AAHomecare is proud to announce that Steve Ackerman, president and CEO of Spectrum Medical, Inc., has joined the AAHomecare Executive Committee in the position of treasurer.
Alan Landauer, chairman of Landauer Metropolitan, Inc., has stepped down from his post as treasurer and will remain a member of the AAHomecare Board of Directors.
"Alan is well-known for his commitment to the homecare community," said AAHomecare President and CEO Tom Ryan. "After years of tireless service on the AAHomecare Board and Councils, Alan is ready to get others involved and bring new leadership up from the ranks. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of caring that is a hallmark of great leaders."
Steve Ackerman is a 33-year veteran of the HME industry. He founded Spectrum Medical, Inc. in 1983 to serve the Washington, DC metro area. He has served in various capacities for state and national trade associations and has been called before Congress and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as an expert on industry issues.
AAHomecare asked Ackerman to share his perspectives on the industry and his new position.
You are a long-time industry leader and advocate. What are the accomplishments on behalf of the industry that you are most proud of?
The accomplishment I am most proud of was being part of the group that merged AAHomecare and NAIMES. Industry unity and the need to speak with one voice were long overdue.
What direction do you see AAHomecare moving in the next five years?
In the next five years, I would hope to see AAHomecare continue to try and work collaboratively with CMS to resolve our issues. We have a common mission, which is quality care for our seniors. Our industry has learned how difficult and time consuming it is to effect change at the legislative level. Tom Ryan and his team have done a superb job getting this started with Laurence Wilson and his staff.
What kind of change do you want to see from the AAHomecare board?
The only recommendation I have for the AAHomecare board, and for that matter the membership in general, is for everyone to be actively engaged in the recruitment of new members. There is strength in numbers.
How do you feel about moving into the Treasurer role?
I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the industry as Treasurer of the Board of Trustees. I appreciate the confidence the Board has placed in me with this appointment and look forward to working with Robert Steedley and the rest of the leadership team.
