$440,766 Raised by 900 Participants and 60 Teams in the 35th Annual Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay

BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/15/14 -- 900 walkers, joggers, runners, volunteers and campers pulled together this weekend to raise $440,766 for Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay.

The 35th annual Easter Seals 24 Hour relay concluded at 10:00AM on Sunday June 15, 2014, leaving participants tired from 24 hours of relay work and serious fun, but exhilarated knowing that collectively they have raised enough money to send nearly 200 children to the BC Easter Seals Summer Camps this year.

60 teams registered for this event where participants wound through Burnaby's Central Park and Swangard Stadium for 24 hours, from 10:00am on Saturday until 10:00am on Sunday. When not running, the "campers" enjoy volleyball tournaments, the ever-popular Mr. and Ms. Relay Pageant, a Subway footlong sandwich eating contest, meals from some of Vancouver's best food carts, children's activities, on-going entertainment and the enthusiastic support of the Easter Seals camp counselors, making the entire "day" festive for all.

The goal of the event is to raise funds for BC Easter Seals summer camp programs. Each team is asked to fund raise, supporting the overall efforts of the event.

The top fundraising teams and the amount of money raised by these dedicated teams are for 2014:

1. KPL Accounting Firm- raising $23,853
2. Inner Fit Studios with $17,366
3. Acklands-Granger - $17,295
4. Remax Retrax -$14,760
5. KKBL Happy campers - $14,327

"Each year, I am amazed at the incredible dedication and generosity of our participants and donors." says Stephen Miller, President and CEO of the B.C. Lions Society for Children with Disabilities and Easter Seals BC/Yukon. "Our Relay teams and event volunteers give so much of themselves and their time to help send deserving children and young adults to camp each summer. It is difficult to find the words to express our true gratitude to everyone involved today. These people are amazing!"

This event would not be possible without the generous support of event sponsors. Sincere thanks are offered to the City of Burnaby, Urban Rec, Subway Restaurants of BC, Formula Four, Global BC, Shaw TV, 102.7 The Peak, Vancouver 24 Hours, Eco Video, Thrifty Foods, Emelle's Catering, Clif Bars and Caorda Web Solutions.

The Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay is a project of Easter Seals BC, also known as the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities whose mandate is to provide programs and services for BC's families with children with special needs. This summer the Society will also operate two Young Adult Camps for adults 19 to 25 years of age.
