New CalCPA Chair Stresses Advocacy, Education, Professional Visibility as Strategic Priorities

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., June 19, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Upon becoming the 2014-15 chair of the California Society of CPAs today, Tim Good, CPA, told fellow CalCPA board members and other leaders that he will focus on three strategic priorities:

  • Advocate for members on issues that affect the profession.
  • Attract, educate and support CPAs in their professional and personal growth.
  • Enhance and promote the visibility of the profession and CalCPA.

"I have always felt that the time I invested in CalCPA returned big dividends," said Good. "I have learned a lot and met a lot of great people. As I reach out to CalCPA members this year, I hope to establish relationships and promote the value of CalCPA."

Among the initiatives that CalCPA is undertaking to show its value to members are the offering of a free, four-hour ethics course to dues-paying CPA members, eight professional issues presentations throughout California to update members on important matters affecting the profession and an improved website that will enhance member connections and their ability to tap resources.

Noting that students and young members are critical to the profession, Good said CalCPA will continue to increase CalCPA's presence on college and university campuses and will sponsor celebratory events for new licensees.

"Often, someone's first experience with an organization can be a defining moment in establishing loyalty to that group," Good said.

"We want to do our best to provide newly licensed members-and nonmembers-a tremendous first impression of CalCPA and have them associate their CPA license with CalCPA."

Good is a partner with Windes, a large regional accounting firm based in Long Beach. He primarily works with entrepreneurial businesses and advises on issues ranging from the appropriate tax structure for a new business to tax-efficient strategies to sell all or part of a company. His practice includes tax planning and compliance for complex real estate and business ventures.

Good holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master's in taxation from Golden Gate University. In his spare time, he enjoys swimming, running and biking. He resides in Palos Verdes Estates.
