NEW YORK, July 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- AGRION, the energy & infrastructure marketmaker, has partnered with Con Edison and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to create a new web platform to help promote the use of energy storage in New York buildings.
The site, GridMarket.com, aims to simplify the process for a building owner or manager to implement a storage project. Energy storage, generally using batteries, allows a building to reduce its energy costs by storing energy when it is least expensive and using that stored energy to reduce grid demand at times of peak use.
"Storage has the potential to help our customers control their energy bills and power their buildings even after the kind of fierce weather events that have struck New York in recent years," said Margarett Jolly, director of Research and Development forConEdison. Battery and other forms of energy storage also offer the benefit of back-up power in the event of a power outage. Energy storage offers benefits to users by storing energy during periods of low demand, to reduce energy costs during periods of high demand. Energy storage can also be used to reduce grid power draw during periods of overuse, such as heat waves, to reduce the risk of power outages.
The site works as a centralized repository for the latest information on energy storage technologies, applications, policies and incentives and regulations. It also includes case studies, directories of developers, a map of projects taking place in the region and a business case tool that can be used to determine if a building would benefit from energy storage.
