NEW YORK, July 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate graduate student Grant Palermo will be hosting the second Speakers' Series event on July 14th at 5pm E.T. The event will feature a discussion with Christopher Schlank, a Founder and Managing Partner of Savanna, a New York City-based real estate private equity firm and asset management company that pursues real estate equity and debt investments.
Each session of the series brings notable real estate professionals to NYU's campus to share anecdotes, personal stories, perspectives on real estate development and other relevant industry trends to a diverse student audience.
"After the remarkable success of our inaugural event, I am happy that Christopher Schlank has accepted the invitation to speak to NYU Schack students about his career journey," said Palermo. "Real estate development and construction are both of great interest in our program, and having one of the best in the industry speak about his experiences and success will be an invaluable experience for all of us."
At Savanna, Schlank sits on the Investment Committee and is in charge of construction and redevelopment and shares responsibilities for asset management, sales and marketing and acquisitions. He has overseen the acquisition and redevelopment of over 57 real estate assets, comprising over 17.3 million square feet of space and $3.8 billion of total capitalization, including raw land development sites, apartments, office buildings, industrial to residential conversions, retail and warehouse/distribution properties.
Prior to founding Savanna, Schlank was a project manager for the Westside Federation for Senior Housing, a New York-based developer of low-income housing. He received an MS in Real Estate Development from the Columbia School of Architecture and a BA in Urban Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. Schlank is an Assistant Adjunct Professor at Columbia University where he teaches a seminar in Real Estate Finance to graduate students in the Columbia Architecture School's Real Estate Master's Degree Program.
The NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate at the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies is home to graduate degree and related graduate certificate programs-notably the M.S. in Real Estate, the M.S. in Construction Management, and the M.S. in Real Estate Development.
