IRI users can now directly access data in Teradata sources, work with it, and create metadata and data feeds for Teradata targets.
Teradata is a market leader in analytic technologies and services and, like IRI, can consolidate data from different sources and deliver processing and analytic solutions. Both IRI and Teradata are often selected by customers because they offer linear scalability and extensive parallel processing. "With Teradata's Eclipse PlugIn, we had a natural opportunity to connect both platforms in the IRI Workbench GUI, and exploit our respective strengths in data management," observed IRI project engineer Claudia Irvine.
"There are several practical applications that come from this new connection to Teradata," Irvine noted. Users migrating to, or from, Teradata systems can use IRI CoSort or IRI NextForm to acquire data from the existing databases, re-map it, and load it into the new environment quickly. For data privacy and compliance, IRI FieldShield can apply different protection functions to columns in Teradata tables. IRI RowGen can produce safe, intelligent, and referentially correct test data for Teradata tables, with or without production data.
"The beauty of IRI's Eclipse environment is that users can perform their work in a familiar place, and in ways that are most comfortable for them," Irvine said. "They can script their data handling jobs in the syntax-aware editor and run them on any command line. Or, they can use GUI wizards to automatically create and modify their jobs." The IRI Workbench is an integrated development environment, built on Eclipse', which supports all IRI software, and its shared metadata and data management infrastructure.
