LOS ANGELES, July 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Several students from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology's (TCSPP) Clinical Forensic Psychology and Clinical Psychology Doctoral (Psy.D.) Programs are among 37 psychology students in California who have received an internship stipend through the California Psychology Internship Council (CAPIC). The Chicago School is the leading nonprofit graduate school devoted exclusively to psychology and related behavioral and health sciences.
Funded by the state's Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) through the California Department of Mental Health, these stipends are awarded to students completing internships in publicly supported mental health agencies in California. Each awardee will receive a substantial stipend towards their educational advancement.
Six of the TCSPP students are from The Chicago School's Southern California Campuses, while the seventh attends the Chicago Campus. The Southern California students are Ana Mena, Clinical Forensic Psychology (Psy.D.) Program; Jessica Thomas, Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) Program; Julie Sanchez, Clinical Forensic Psychology (Psy.D.) Program; Kavita Deo, Clinical Forensic Psychology (Psy.D.) Program; Robert Nosic, Clinical Forensic Psychology (Psy.D.) Program; and Jazmin Guzman, Clinical Forensic Psychology (Psy.D) Program. We also congratulate Yonatan Rosenblum, a student at the Chicago Campus in the Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) Program. The accomplishments of these students demonstrate the effectiveness of The Chicago School's Engaged Professional Model of Education, which prepares students for onground training to help impact the health of our communities.

Several of the students commented on their internship stipends:
Jazmin Guzman, a resident of Riverside, currently interns at the County of San Bernardino Department of Behavioral Health working with underserved populations. She says that this stipend gives her the opportunity to continue her work and allows her to focus on learning and implementing her skills during her post-doctorate placement.
Yonatan Rosenblum, a San Francisco resident, currently interns at the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland in the Behavioral Pediatrics Clinic. Yonatan is thrilled and honored to receive this award and feels that this type of work is appreciated and supported within the community.
Julie Sanchez, a resident of Canyon Country, interns at the Alafia Mental Health Institute in Lancaster She says that this stipend will give her the flexibility to look for a position that she will be passionate about and help to further her professional career.
Jessica Thomas, a Los Angeles resident, is currently finishing her pre-doctoral internship at the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health in the Enhanced Specialized Foster Care Unit as a field based clinician. She says this stipend will help her continue to work with underserved children, adolescents and families after graduation.
The CAPIC Intern Stipend Program award was contracted for over $ 5.1 million by the MHSA for the past six years. This is the final cohort of stipends that CAPIC will be issuing under this MHSA contract. CAPIC's mission is to promote excellence in professional psychology training and mental health services.
