California Local Governments Oppose Prop 46, Call It A "Potential Budget Buster"

SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --Today, the growing campaign to defeat November's most fiscally reckless measure - Proposition 46, which would sharply increase health care costs for consumers, taxpayers and local governments in California - announced that the measure is now opposed by one of California's most respected local government organizations, the California Special Districts Association (CSDA).

CSDA represents more than 1,100 special districts throughout the state including fire districts, park districts, library districts, hospital districts and other local governments that provide essential local services.

Its opposition comes the same day that California's independent Legislative Analyst reaffirmed in its official analysis that Proposition 46 could increase state and local government costs by "several hundreds of millions of dollars annually."

"Proposition 46 is a potential budget buster for local governments. It will hurt special districts' ability to deliver the core local services that millions of Californians depend upon throughout the state," said Noelle Mattock, President of the El Dorado Hills Community Services District and current President of the California Special Districts Association.

CSDA joins the City of Long Beach and a growing list of California organizations that have announced their formal opposition to the high cost of Proposition 46, including (partial list):
