Los Angeles Times and New York Times Report on Legalization of Cannabis

CORONA, Calif., July 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --AVT, Inc. (OTC Markets: AVTC) (www.autoretail.com), a leader in automated systems for the marijuana industry, commented today on recent editorials by the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times regarding the legalization of cannabis.

CNBC reports that "Marijuana could be the next great American Industry," and places the market size at $10.2 billion.

The New York Times compares today's ban on marijuana to our nation's prohibition on alcohol.

"It took 13 years for the United States to come to its senses and end Prohibition, 13 years in which people kept drinking, otherwise law-abiding citizens became criminals and crime syndicates arose and flourished. It has been more than 40 years since Congress passed the current ban on marijuana, inflictinggreat harm on society just to prohibit a substance far less dangerous than alcohol."

The Los Angeles Times says that changing marijuana's drug classification would help regulate the market. "Why not reclassify marijuana from a Schedule 1 drug - a ranking that means cannabis is as addictive as heroin and with no medical benefit - to something less restrictive? Considering that 35 states permit marijuana for medicinal use, this classification is obviously inappropriate. It's also one reason why California and other states have had such a hard time regulating the medical marijuana industry."

If the federal government were to legalize marijuana, or simply reclassify it to allow medicinal use, the affect on companies involved in the cannabis industry could be momentous.

The Miami Herald reported that the "Green Rush" is just beginning, and that marijuana will be the "Next Business Boom."

Several news reports suggested that companies like AVT that provide products and services to the marijuana industry, could greatly benefit from any loosening of the current marijuana regulations.

"At AVT, we focus on developing technology-driven systems to support growing markets," said Shannon Illingworth of AVT, Inc. "Through continual innovation, we have launched into new areas of automation. Our medicine dispensing systems can be used by the rapidly growing cannabis, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, to improve safety, security and regulatory compliance."
