Time Adjusted for Record-setting Bridge Beam Delivery August 6 Near Duluth

Note: Due to faster expected progress on the bridge project, the movement of the beams has been moved up to 4:30 a.m. on August 6.

Minnesota Trucking Association.

State history will be made on August 6 when two of six record-setting bridge beams will be delivered to a road project near Proctor, Minnesota.

The 183-foot concrete beam - weighing in at over 100 tons and longer than half a football field - will be transported by a single truck, a new Minnesota record. Six such beams will be delivered to the project over a period of four days.

The loaded unit will be available for filming in both Elk River and Proctor. Drivers will be available for interviews.

LeFebvre & Sons of Elk River will move the record-setting beam utilizing specialized equipment and their top drivers. It will take 16 axles and 62 wheels to move the 226,600 pound load that breaks the tape at 220 feet long when moving. Each load will have two escort vehicles.

The two drivers on the job, Craig Walz and Michael Belanger, have accumulated just shy of 4,000,000 accident free miles over a combined 63 years behind the wheel. Both drivers have been recipients of the coveted Minnesota Trucking Association Driver of the Month Award and the prestigious Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association Million Mile Safety Excellence Award.

The route for the load, which includes U.S.Highway 10 and Interstates 694, 35E and 35, was developed under a permit issued by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
