The Zoo sauvage Welcomes a Scandinavian TV star!

SAINT-FÉLICIEN, Quebec, December 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

Milak, a 6-year-old female polar bear and television and social media star in her country, as well as in 74 others, is permanently settling down at Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien. She is coming to us directly from Denmark.

Until last Tuesday, Milak was residing at the Aalborg Zoo, where she was the public's darling. Born early one morning in 2008 in the polar bear's habitat, right there in front of the public observation window, Milak was quickly transported inside the den by her mother, Victoria. It is from this secluded area that the Aalborg Zoo team followed her first steps via a system of cameras.

Not surprisingly, last December 10th, the Danish national television network, TV-Nord 2, ran a 10-minute report on the preparations surrounding her one-way trip on KLM Airlines, bound for "Saint-Félicien in Canada" http://www.tv2nord.dk/findo. Milak's admirers, upon learning of her departure for Canada, remained faithful to her. On social media, they stated that they couldn't wait for the quarantine period to end in order to reconnect with her.

Dr. Josée Tremblay, Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien's veterinarian, made the trip to the Aalborg Zoo in order to ensure Milak's well-being during each step of her transfer to Canada: "I was very warmly welcomed by my Danish colleagues.I had the chance to see her interactwith her keeper. There was very good complicity between the both of them". Henrik Vesterskov Johansen, Director of the Aalborg Zoo is satisfied, albeit sad to see her go: "I amcertainthat she will be happy in her new Canadian habitat".

Zoo sauvage General Manager Lauraine Gagnon mentions that Milak's arrival at the Zoo sauvage from the European continent will allow for the diversification of the genetic potential of polar bears residing in Canadian zoos. She concludes: "It is a superbacquisitionthat allows our organizationto affirm its presence and expertise in an even more significant and responsible manner...We can't wait to introduce her to our maleYelléand our female Aisaqvak".
