Update: Primus Quadruples Business VoIP Service Footprint / Canada's VoIP pioneer expands business footprint to every province to reach 80 per cent of small-to-medium size businesses

TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 02/03/15 -- Primus Telecommunications (Primus) is significantly expanding its business VoIP footprint with availability in new markets of all sizes across the country. As a result, Primus has quadrupled its footprint with significant increases in regions and provinces such as Atlantic Canada, Quebec and Saskatchewan in an effort to reach more than 80 per cent of businesses across the country.

An industry pioneer, Primus was the first telecommunications company in Canada to introduce VoIP services. Since this ground-breaking launch in 2004, the technology's evolution and adoption in Canada has been significant. Driven by growth in broadband networks, continued advances in technology and cost effectiveness for customers, VoIP is now widely accepted by businesses and consumers alike.

"From the start, our objective has been to provide Canadian small and medium-sized businesses with the choice, quality of service, and scalability they require to compete and succeed regionally, nationally and globally," explained Brad Fisher, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Product at Primus. "This significant expansion will continue to do just that and will allow us to share our exceptional service with more Canadians than ever before."

Some of the key markets in this significant expansion include:

-- British Columbia: Abbotsford, Kelowna, Kamloops, Chilliwack, Nanaimo,
    Prince George, Saanich
-- Alberta: Red Deer, Lethbridge, St. Albert, Spruce Grove, Medicine Hat,
    Grande Prairie
-- Saskatchewan: Saskatoon
-- Ontario: Sudbury, Barrie, Chatham, Peterborough, Sault Ste. Marie, North
    Bay, Sarnia, Belleville, Cornwall, Trenton
-- Quebec: Laval, Longueil, Levis, Saguenay, Sherbrook, Drummondville,
    Trois-Rivieres
-- Atlantic Canada: Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, Charlottetown, St.
    John's

As a result of the expansion, Primus will offer number portability in every province so that business customers can retain their telephone numbers when switching to Primus, whether they do business locally or across the country. Primus offers a variety of VoIP options for businesses to choose from, including SIP Trunking and Hosted PBX. Primus Hosted PBX allows Canadian businesses to have access to all the business communication tools they need while removing the complexity and cost of managing a phone system. Hosted PBX is a cloud-based VoIP phone system which allows employees to work in the office, at home, or on the road using their mobile phone.

Growing number of Canadian SMBs leveraging VoIP's competitive advantages

Canadian businesses are leveraging VoIP-based solutions such as Hosted PBX and are quickly discovering the competitive advantages these solutions have to offer, including scalability (the system is designed to grow with your business), flexibility (company staff is accessible at anytime and anywhere), reliability (built-in failover and disaster recovery eliminates the risk of downtime), cost savings (eliminates the need for large capital investments or maintenance fees) and call quality.

"Small and medium-sized business leaders across the country have told us they have many of the same needs for technology as large businesses," explains Fisher. "So we responded by expanding our network to help leaders across the country focus on growing their companies instead of on the complexities of managing their networks."

"The entire Canadian economy is being transformed by Internet-delivered cloud computing services that give small to medium-sized businesses access to increasingly capable technology at manageable prices," explains Michael O'Neil, Principal Analyst, InsightaaS.com. "Our research suggests that cloud infrastructure will shift from less than 10% of Canadian IT spending in 2013 to over 50% by 2020. To capitalize on this market transformation and to level the competitive playing field, small to medium-sized businesses need access to fast, reliable and affordable phone and Internet services - which Primus is now able to offer the majority of businesses across the country."

Primus recognized for delivering exceptional VoIP services

Although Primus' early entry into this market has firmly positioned it for future growth and success, its leadership team is even more committed than ever to delivering an exceptional customer experience to Canadian businesses across the country. Primus has been awarded three Consumer Choice Awards (for exceptional VoIP services) - the most distinguished award for business excellence in Canada.
