Elemental Fitness and its Unique Approach to Being Your Personal Trainer

LEEDS, England, April 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

Elemental Fitness, a growing local business in Bramley, has its sights on becoming the best place to train in the whole of Yorkshire utilising a form of Martial Art.

Starting in 2008, whilst studying a BSc (Hons) in Sports, Health, Exercise and Nutrition David Kenyon decided to start helping others by improving health and fitness through teaching kickboxing. David Says "I am passionate about health and well-being, in particular nutrition and human physiology. What we do at Elemental Fitness is like no other. It's a unique take on the archetypal personal trainer". At the age of 11 David started practicing freestyle kickboxing and now on his fourth Dan Black Belt believes this is what separates him and Elemental Fitness from the rest.

David has been using his skills and knowledge in freestyle kickboxing as a personal trainer and says "it's one of the best cardio workouts I've experienced". He works out of a purpose built studio in Bramley, Leeds, where he also runs a kickboxing club under the name of the Elemental Kickboxing Academy. With the help and support from former employer Steve Kelly (G&K Security Ltd) they transformed an old workshop into a fully fledged studio/dojo with a 2000sq/ft sprung floor, a boxing ring, 6 meter climbing wall, a treadmill, a rowing machine, weights, a variety of punch/kick bags and speed balls to name a few. However, like David mentioned "it's not just about having state of the art equipment, you need a reason to push yourself to become active and start a workout program in the first place, you require that intrinsic motivation to see it through".

Having won a 'dragons den' style competition in 2008 at Leeds Trinity and All Saints, David received a £1000 grant to get his business off the ground. David wanted to be different in providing an excellent personal training service. He knew he didn't want to be another 'Mr. Motivator' - someone just there to push you to get that one extra rep. He understood that everyone's needs were different but the one thing they all have in common - is that they would need to be having an enjoyable experience. David claims "Exercise is hard, and if you want to get the full benefits you have to train hard, but by making training enjoyable you connect the two things together making it easier to maintain longer term".

"This is why incorporating kickboxing into my workouts sets us apart from many other personal trainers in West Yorkshire" say's David. Making this his business model he soon came to realise that not only will his clients get fit they would learn an amazing life skill that not all posses.

It is not all work for David though, in his spare time he has organised events to raise money for charities - one of them being BLISS (a charity specialising in premature babies) back in April 2013 raising £1826.11, this for him was a personal triumph after his eldest son Lewis was born 8 weeks early at 3lb 5oz. He mentions that it was only possible achieving this by making the event different, "Fun Runs are good - however I wanted to do something different, a 3 hour 'kickboxercise' event - not everyone knows kickboxing, it was almost a reason in it's self to get involved in the fundraiser and take up the challenge. We had people come to support BLISS but also to witness first hand a charity event that involved a martial art."

And it doesn't stop there with David's philanthropy. In 2007 and 2008 David travelled to the USA to work with young people with special needs. He was based in High Falls, New York, where he worked as a program counsellor instructing the campers on zip wires, tight ropes and climbing nets. He worked, lived and ate with the campers for 2 months at a time, which involved working with children with various forms of disabilities, such as Autism, Down syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome and ADHD.

For David - raising money for charities, working with children with special needs and putting in overtime to help his club grow is all part of his drive to help people live more active lives long term.

Recently Elemental Fitness has been expanding and David has taken on a new trainer, James, specialising in freestyle kickboxing. For the both of them Elemental Fitness has now become an ever growing family business. James say's 'Everyday I come into work David is always looking for new ways to expand Elemental Fitness and keep things fresh. He isn't one to get comfortable; he likes a challenge and always wants nothing but the best for clients. His work ethic is second to none - no matter who you are he always has time for you to help you better yourself'.

With years of experience in freestyle kickboxing, a degree in sports, health, exercise and nutrition, countless personal achievements from national championships to grading up to 10 1st dan black belts by the end of 2015, as well as his charity work it shows both David and Elemental Fitness have what it takes to be a cut above the rest.
