Pharmacies are an integral and indispensable part of any health system, Greek chemist shops scanning for counterfeit and expired medicines using the Aegate system have now expanded their capability further to provide patient care at point of dispense. Two way communication is enabled between pharmacist and manufacturer due to the unique Aegate system which is now available in Greece for the pharmaceutical industry to leverage.
The introduction of the Falsified Medicines Directive will require medicines to be uniquely serialised, protected by tamper-proof seals and their authenticity verified before being dispensed to patients. Every pharmacy in the EU will be obligated to have the ability to scan the serialised codes - thanks to Aegate, Greece has already stated to accelerate patient safety rather than wait for it to become compulsory.
