Mr. Murphy brings nearly 35 years of experience in the retail and consumer products industry to the Kurt Salmon team, including both internal operational and external advisory roles, in addition to serving on the boards of various retail and consumer goods companies. Throughout his career, Mr. Murphy has remained focused on applying his expertise in operational excellence to a wide range of strategic projects, including corporate restructuring, comprehensive turnaround programs and large-scale retail IT implementations. In his new role at Kurt Salmon, Mr. Murphy will support clients through strategic transformations, as well as drive technology innovation and implementation for new and existing retail and consumer goods clients, many of whom are in the midst of re-examining their position within a complex and ever-changing industry.
"I look forward to adding value to the great work Kurt Salmon is already doing supporting clients in the U.K. and throughout Europe," said Mr. Murphy. "In the evolving omnichannel world, many retailers need external guidance in order to transform their relationships with customers. While the mathematics of retail hasn't changed, the equations have become much more complex."
Prior to joining Kurt Salmon, Mr. Murphy applied his strategic and operational capabilities at Alvarez Marsal, supporting multinational retail clients in optimising their omnichannel capabilities. Before that, he served as a director at AlixPartners, working across the full spectrum of the retail sector, and, previously, he was focused on retail engagements as a director at Ernst Young. Mr. Murphy has authored a number of retail publications, including the book Retail Therapy: Making Strategic Relationships Work, which is an exploration of the critical relationships between four key groups in the retail industry: customers, shareholders, employees and suppliers.
"We're thrilled to welcome Dan to the Kurt Salmon family," said Helen Mountney, managing partner for Kurt Salmon in the U.K and Ireland. "His operational and advisory expertise will help transform and deepen our relationships with new and existing clients, and provide a substantial benefit to high street retailers wrestling with the question of how to truly operationalise their omnichannel aspirations."
"As more and more retail and consumer goods companies move to become truly omnichannel, their need for experienced advisors who understand all facets of the transformation grows," added Brooks Kitchel, leader of the Global Retail and Consumer Group at Kurt Salmon. "Dan's addition to the team is part of our ongoing commitment to our clients to provide the best available guidance and expertise to support their business goals."
