World Government Summit 2016: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, UAE Vice President and Ruler of Dubai Tweets "Dialogue of the Future"

DUBAI, UAE, February 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

The "Dialogue of the Future" live social media event detailed sweeping changes that include a "young and flexible" government, restructured ministries, and a plan to outsource public services to the private sector. He announced the appointment of a 22 year old female minister, the youngest in the world.

Newly created positions for a Minister of State for Happiness and Minister of State for Tolerance underscore a reenergized government focused on youth, innovation, health and public satisfaction.

"The Internet is a Human Right and must be free for all," said Professor Nicholas Negroponte, founder of MIT's Media Lab, in a "Future of the Future" session, adding that, "The future is coming, but it won't be evenly distributed." Low-orbit satellites costing just US$10 billion could transform inequality of access created by competition.

Additional highlights from the summit include:

  • The UAE Ministry of Economy and the US Department of Commerce entered into a MoU to promote mutual cooperation in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • The UAE's Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, drew parallels between the country's decision to stop the conflict in Yemen from spreading to neighboring countries, to the successful effort to contain the New Year's Eve Address hotel fire.
  • Rwanda is on track to become a middle-income country by 2020, says President Paul Kagame, noting an average annual GDP growth of 8% since 2003.
  • Dr Peter Diamandis, Chairman and CEO of X-Prize, and Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Singularity University explored the impending exponential leap in education with the convergence of Artificial Intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, 3D printing and robotics.
  • With global energy demands set to double in 30 years, "Nanotechnologies can lead to ground-breaking innovations in renewable energy," said Justin Hall-Tipping, Chief Executive Officer of NanoHoldings.
  • Traveling in pods zooming through tubes? "Sounds like science fiction, but it's not," said Brogan Bambrogan, CTO & Co-founder of Hyperloop. A year's end full system test could change the transport system landscape within six years.
