PeopleKeys' New International Study Offers Insights into Successful Workplace Behaviors Across Countries

BOARDMAN, Ohio, Sept. 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- PeopleKeys, international expert on Behavioral Analysis and personality assessment, announced today the release of a study on international workplace behaviors. The study offers clarity on one of the most frequently discussed topics within the study of Behavioral Analysis- how do people compare internationally and what impact does location, culture, and environment have on behavior within the workplace?

The study, conducted by Dr. Brad Smith from PeopleKeys, was analyzed and validated by Dr. Larry Price of Texas State University. Dr. Smith comments, "In essence, we were trying to compare traits associated with success in the workplace to see if the same traits applied regardless of location. We focused on Europe, Asia, Africa, and North and South America."

The study was based on the DISC Personality Model created at Harvard. The case study included results from more than 50 countries, over a 10-year period, with data from more than 300,000 individual results. The environments compared in the study include workplace, home and family, education, and non-profit sectors.

Prior studies demonstrated that only 3% of the population possessed a primary Dominant/Drive style with 11% having the Influencing style, 69% having the Stable/Steady traits, and 17% Compliant style. Dr. Price concluded that this was consistent with the new study, which found only slight variations by country. However, in the workplace environment, almost 20% of respondents were primary D style, 15% the Communicative/Influencing Style, 40% Stable/Steady, and 25% Compliant. The results indicate that a tremendous amount of adaptability is required within the workplace, and that an understanding of your own style and the styles of those around you will greatly determine your success or failure.

The information from the study helps a company:

  1. Give managers insight into effective training and motivation of employees so they can make more informed decisions regarding new hires because they understand a formula for success.
  2. Reduce turnover through better matching of employees to the workplace requirements.
