Dr. Dix brings a valued perspective that will be instrumental to us in building the world's most comprehensive data privacy management software platform."

Dr. Alexander Dix

Dr. Dix currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the European Academy for Freedom of Information and Data Protection in Berlin.

From 1998 to 2005, he served as Commissioner for Data Protection and Access to Information in Brandenburg, Germany, before transitioning into the role of Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information - a position he held from June 2005 to January 2016.

Under his leadership, his office imposed a fine of €1.1M on the German Railways in 2009, which was accepted and paid, for the illegal monitoring of their workforce This was, at the time, the largest fine ever imposed by a single supervisory authority in Germany.

From 2005 to 2015, he chaired the International Working Group on Data Protection in Telecommunications (also known as "Berlin Group,") and represented the Data Protection Authorities of the 16 German states (Länder) in the Article 29 Working Party of European Data Protection Authorities.

Dr. Dix is a specialist in telecommunications and media, and has published extensively on issues of data protection, freedom of information, and the cross-border protection of citizens' privacy. He is co-editor of the Jahrbuch für Informationsfreiheit und Informationsrecht (Yearbook for Freedom of Information and Right to Information), and is a member of the Editorial Board of the European Data Protection Law Review.

He also chairs the subgroups on International Data Transfers, as well as on Telemedia and Telecommunications set up by the German supervisory authorities cooperating in the Düsseldorfer Kreis (Düsseldorf District.)

Dr. Dix is currently a member of the Privacy Advisory Group in the UN Global Pulse Project, a collection of data innovation case studies that cover global issues like public health, climate change, food security, and employment.

"Due to national law, German organizations have faced strict documentation requirements and obligations on Data Protection Officers (DPO) for many years," said Dr. Dix. "With the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), these concepts now apply more broadly across all EU member states. This means organizations must invest in the proper infrastructure and tools to allow privacy professionals and data protection officers to be effective. I'm very pleased to join OneTrust at this unprecedented time for compliance practitioners."

Favoritenwechsel
