The global military night vision device market is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 5.3% during the period 2017-2021.

The report, Global Military Night Vision Device Market 2017-2021, has been prepared based on an in-depth market analysis with inputs from industry experts. The report covers the market landscape and its growth prospects over the coming years. The report also includes a discussion of the Key vendors operating in this market.

One trend in the market is emergence of night vision devices with thermal imaging. The integration of thermal imaging into night vision devices is proving to be a great innovation. Night vision provides soldiers with greater situational awareness by illuminating the surroundings during night time operations, while thermal imaging help soldiers locate a target in poor visibility conditions.

According to the report, one driver in the market is technology advances enhancing night vision capabilities. The latest technological advances in night vision devices are providing soldiers with the capability of sight and day-like clarity in low light conditions. In 2015, researchers at the US Army's Communications-Electronics Research, Development, and Engineering Center (CERDEC) developed an advanced night vision and thermal imagery technology for NVGs. The new state-of-the-art NVGs provide soldiers the ability of sight in low visibility conditions, such as fog or heavy smoke, and handles the seamless transition from day to night and from far-sight to close-up.

Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is need for further R&D to minimize side-effects of night vision technologies. Assisted-vision technologies use display monitors with monochrome or other unnatural color combinations that human eyes are not biologically accustomed to processing. Constant exposure to assisted-vision technology, such as head-up displays and night vision goggles, can force the operator's eyes to make unnatural movements. Operators who are visually exposed to night vision display devices for sustained periods of time experience symptoms of visual impairment. They endure visual fatigue, headaches, and nausea among other probable side-effects while using night vision technologies.
