Rise in number of working women
The increase in the number of working women worldwide has fueled the consumers' demand for organic baby food products. Also, the increasing urbanization and the growth of the middle-class population have encouraged consumers to adopt convenience-oriented lifestyles, which, in turn, is making organic baby food products a necessary option among working women.
Manjunath Reddy, a lead food research analyst at Technavio, says, "The number of working women in developing countries such as China and India has increased substantially in recent years. In 2014, women comprised 49% of China's total population and 64% of its labor force. Nearly 72% of mothers aged between 25 and 34 years and having a child aged under six years are employed in China. This increase in the number of working women has led to an increase in dual-income households, which, in turn, has led to high average income per household."
Growing popularity of organic baby food products
Growing awareness about the harmful effects of chemicals and preservatives has resulted in more parents opting for organic baby foods. A preference for organic baby products is due to the rising concern for health and general well-being of children. Organic baby food is free from preservatives, chemicals, pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics. Hence, it has gathered much attention in recent years.
"Many stipulations govern the manufacturing, packaging, and labeling of organic baby foods. All the organic baby cereals are grown without using chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The organic dairy products for babies are derived from livestock that is fed organic feed and not injected with growth hormones. HiPP, a leading European brand of organic baby food, offers a variety of organic baby foods in fruit pots, pouches, and jars," adds Manjunath.
Growing health concerns among parents and breastfeeding limitations
Mothers may be unable to breastfeed their babies for many reasons. Also, they may not be able to give enough breast milk for their babies due to several reasons like giving birth at a later age, having multiple kids, and having had breast reduction surgery. In such cases, infant formula is used significantly.
Owing to dietary instructions by physicians, mothers must follow a balanced diet for their babies including infants and toddlers. Also, critical medical conditions such as post-pregnancy infection, breast surgery, and being under medication restrict mothers from breastfeeding their babies. This concern drives parents to opt for breastfeeding alternatives such as infant milk and infant formula milk powder. In some cases, breastfeeding is not entertained and preferred by mothers in public places.
