Mistletoe and Whine: Deezer Solves Christmas Musical Misery for UK's Designated Drivers

LONDON, December 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --

lA fifth of Brits find drunken passengers singing the worst thing about being designated driver

Deezer reveals the anti-singalong playlist to help them travel in peace

New research out today from Deezer, the world's most personal music streaming service, reveals that 'drunken passengers singing out of tune' is the biggest woe for over a fifth of designated drivers this festive season.

In an attempt to provide peace to all men and women who take one for the team and turn taxi driver for their party-going pals, Deezer have created the anti-singalong playlist, featuring songs that the UK has voted the hardest to singalong to.

The top five most difficult songs to singalong to, according to Brits are:

  • Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody (19%)
  • Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights (18%)
  • Adele - Hello (11%)
  • The Darkness - Christmas Time (10%)
  • Motorhead - Ace of Spades (9%)

The poll revealed that Christmas tunes are the nation's favourite genre to sing to when drunk, followed closely by cheesy pop and loud rock. However, it is females that are getting into the Christmas spirit the most, with 60% more women voting this as their drunken preference, compared to men.

It isn't just singing that gets on our nerves, the top five annoyances for the UK's designated drivers are:

  1. Multiple stops at different houses (22%)
  2. Out of tune, drunk singing by passengers (21%)
  3. Unintelligent conversations with drunken passengers (21%)
  4. Argumentative drunk passengers (20%)
  5. Passengers refusing to wear a seatbelt (13%)

If your designated driver is between the age of 35 and 44, then watch out; as this is the age group that that finds drunken backseat singers the most irritating (25%). Interestingly, the older generation of 55+ were the most tolerant, with only 18% admitting to being annoyed by drunken singing passengers.

Phil Moore, VP Northern & Southern EMEA at Deezer: "This festive season we want to applaud all the designated drivers out there and make their lives easier by preventing boozy singalongs in the car, thanks to our anti-singalong playlist that has been chosen by Brits. As a personalised streaming service, with playlists for every mood and moment, we just couldn't neglect the unfortunate designated driver's individual preferences!"

The 'Official Designated Driver' playlist can be found here.
