SRV Yhtiöt Oyj: Baana to open for cyclists at Kalasatama, Helsinki

SRV GROUP PLC PRESS RELEASE 24 APRIL 2018, AT 10.00 AM

Baana to open for cyclists at Kalasatama, Helsinki

The cycling and pedestrian routes that have been closed at Kalasatama, Helsinki, in the vicinity of the Kalasatama Centre, i.e. REDI, will re-open on 30 April 2018. The cycling and pedestrian routes running from Kulosaari bridge to the city centre and to Pasila will return to their former locations on both sides of the Itäväylä highway, where they were before the REDI construction work began. With the opening of Baana, the temporary bus stops situated on Kulosaari bridge will be moved to their final locations below the covered section of the Itäväylä highway.

The cycling routes opening at both sides of the Itäväylä highway are part of Baana, a network of cycling paths planned by the City of Helsinki. Helsinki has plans to build a network of such cycling paths covering the whole city: https://www.hel.fi/helsinki/fi/kartat-ja-liikenne/pyoraily-ja-kavely/pyorareitit/baanat(in Finnish)

Maps of cycling routes can be found on the City of Helsinki website at the address:

At the beginning of May, the City of Helsinki will launch pedestrian and cycling path improvement works on Junatie and the Kulosaari bridge. The improvement works will last until the end of 2018. During the project, pedestrian and cycling paths will not be closed other than for brief periods during surfacing work.

Temporary traffic arrangements made for REDI, which won the Construction Site of 2017 award, were removed for motor vehicle traffic in autumn 2017. Construction at the site has progressed on schedule. The REDI shopping centre will open its doors to customers on 20 September 2018. The first tower building, Majakka, is under construction, and the first residents will move in to the building during spring 2019. Construction of the second tower building, Loisto, is due to begin in summer 2018.

REDI in brief:

REDI, implemented by SRV at Kalasatama, Helsinki, will comprise the inner city's largest shopping and experience centre as well as eight tower buildings. Below the centre will be a 2,000-space parking facility, usable by both the towers' residents and the shopping centre's customers. REDI's popularity is not just restricted to business premises. Of the apartments in the first residential tower, Majakka, around 90% have been sold. Advance marketing of the second tower building, Loisto, will begin in April 2018 and construction is intended to start during summer 2018. Construction work at REDI, Finland's largest urban construction project, was launched in spring 2015 and is expected to continue until 2023.
