Boldon James Brings Intelligent Outlook Classification to Office 365

LONDON, August 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --

Boldon James extends Outlook classification to cover cloud and on-premis deployments of Office365, providing the most comprehensive classification coverage available for Microsoft applications

QinetiQ's data security company Boldon James, the leading specialist provider of data classification and secure messaging solutions, today announced the launch of OWA Classifier 3.10, extending its leading data classification support for Microsoft Office 365 to fully encompass both public cloud and on-premis deployments of Outlook Web App (OWA), also known as Outlook on the Web.

OWA Classifier 3.10 fully integrates with the OWA variants provided within Office 365, offering consistent data classification functionality across all online and on-premis versions.

In addition to user driven classification, OWA Classifier can now mandate classification, or even apply it automatically based on intelligent application of your rules. This ensures classification is consistent across an organisation, improving user's security awareness, and simplifying compliance to data protection legislation such as GDPR, NYDFS and ITAR.

Classifier can also detect the classification of an attachment, or content such as PII, and assign the classification level of a message accordingly, alongside being able to check that clearance levels of recipients are appropriate for the message. This can then stop files classified as say 'Internal' being sent to users within an external domain, offering additional security to data in transit. These Classifier labels additionally drive Microsoft AIP and RMS data security features, as well as an unrivalled ecosystem of technology partners, such as rights management, discovery, access control and DLP protection for data in transit.

As a Microsoft technology partner for over 20 years, Boldon James worked closely with Microsoft to take advantage of their latest Office 'add-in framework' to develop this new version of OWA Classifier which now provides extensive classification capability across the entire range of Microsoft Outlook applications. Operating with the Office add-in framework allows Classifier to provide a native user experience.

OWA Classifier 3.10 brings the full set of powerful Classifier rules to OWA and Outlook on the Web, providing users the ability to access emails wherever they are, confident that sensitive emails and attachments are protected and controlled in all versions of Microsoft Outlook.

Commenting on the launch, Keith Vallance, Product Director at Boldon James said "Working environments continue to evolve to incorporate increasingly dispersed workforces and flexible working practices. Boldon James' close and long standing partnership with Microsoft ensures Classifier remains on the leading edge of Office 365 evolution, driving best-of-breed data classification technology into every corner of your organisation, wherever your data and users reside."

OWA Classifier 3.10 further extends Classifier's already market-leading cloud classification capabilities, and provides the widest range of Microsoft Office 365 classification available. In summary, OWA Classifier 3.10 enables the following features in your Office 365 OWA deployment:

  • Intelligent classification rules protecting your organisation from accidental or malicious data loss
  • Offers a true cloud-based service for the Outlook Web App of Office 365, supporting both
on-premis Exchange 2016 and Exchange Online
  • Extends the classic OWA interface directly in the browser, with no need for a separate client
  • Common user classification and administrative experience across Microsoft Outlook variants, on premis, and in the cloud
