According to the Nuffield Trust, the UK's National Health Service (NHS) is currently experiencing a shortage of 12,000 doctors and over 50,000 nurses and midwives. Further, the UK's Evening Standard has reported that some 475,000 additional healthcare jobs and 490,000 social care jobs are expected to be needed in the country in the years ahead.
The UK's labour climate has set the perfect stage for Caribbean workers to benefit, and this is already beginning to play out. Additionally, a study by TotalJobs found that 3.4 million British workers are looking to leave the country to live and work abroad. With these factors on top of the already severe labour shortage, Caribbean workers could very well be among those recruited to the NHS.
