Red Coalition Inc.: Law Enforcement Community Honours Students

TORONTO, ON / ACCESSWIRE / October 26, 2023 / The Association of Black Law Enforcers (A.B.L.E.) is a non-profit organization formed in 1992 to address the needs and concerns of Black and other racial minorities in law enforcement and the community. The membership includes Police Officers, Correctional Officers, Probation and Parole Officers, Immigration Officers, Customs Officers, Court Services Officers, By-law Enforcement Officers, Sheriff's Officers, Special Constables, and members from the community.

The Association of Black Law Enforcers (A.B.L.E.) is celebrating 31 years of Advocacy and Action in our communities and with our members, by co-hosting its annual Scholarship & Awards Gala with the York Regional Police Service. The theme of this year's event is "Our People, Our Purpose" which symbolizes unity, empowerment, and the courage to challenge injustices within and without law enforcement. Our Gala celebrates resilience, advocates for education, and emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and ally collaboration.

A.B.L.E.'s Scholarship Program was created to commemorate the contributions of Rose Fortune (1774-1864) and Peter C. Butler III (1859- 1943) - the first Black police officers in Canada. By awarding scholarships, A.B.L.E. assists Black and visible minority students in achieving their educational and career aspirations. To date, A.B.L.E. has awarded 157 financial scholarships to empower recipients to pursue post-secondary education in law enforcement, corrections, law, criminal justice, and criminology.

This year, A.B.L.E. is excited to announce the expansion of its "Scholarships and President's Award" program through the creation of the nationwide "A.B.L.E. Awards". While recognizing and acknowledging the contributions of all A.B.L.E. members of law enforcement, the "A.B.L.E. Awards" aim to showcase those who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to public safety, professional excellence, and building positive relationships with the communities wherever they serve.

"I want to thank those who have been part of A.B.L.E.'s 30 years of Advocacy and Action. I encourage everyone to be intentional in improving the image of law enforcement, advocating for positive change, and taking action that will realize that change" Jacqueline Edwards, A.B.L.E President.
