NetScout Introduces NetFlow Collector Appliance

WESTFORD, Mass., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NetScout Systems, Inc. , a leading provider of enterprise-wide network and application performance management solutions, today announced the availability of dedicated NetFlow collection and analysis capabilities with the addition of a new appliance product -- nGenius(R) Flow Collector. The new product extends the nGenius(R) Performance Management Solution for NetFlow data sources and further reduces the tool clutter in the IT management environment as part of NetScout's broader CDM initiative launched over two years ago. With the new nGenius Flow Collector, deployed in conjunction with nGenius(R) Performance Manager, customers can instrument and analyze large-scale NetFlow-enabled networks with fewer collector appliances and at a lower cost than with other NetFlow-based alternatives.

The new nGenius Flow Collector combines the highest flow collection performance in the industry, at over 100,000 flows/second and over 1 million NetFlow conversations simultaneously, and support for up to 1000 NetFlow- enabled interfaces in a single collector. NetFlow records sent to the nGenius Flow Collectors are aggregated and then analyzed by NetScout's comprehensive network and application performance management application, nGenius Performance Manager. NetScout's patent-pending CDM(TM) Technology provides the underlying architecture to map the details of the NetFlow information to the common, enterprise-wide views and reports of nGenius Performance Manager. In addition to supporting all the standard capabilities available in other NetFlow-based solutions, the nGenius Solution(R) offers the following unique capabilities:

* A single application (nGenius Performance Manager) to support multiple data sources (MIB-II, Cisco NAM, NetFlow, nGenius(R) Probe). This allows IT managers to deploy the most appropriate instrumentation in specific parts of the network, depending on their performance management needs and budgets, yet allowing them to use the same console, reporting and user interface and giving them the flexibility to upgrade the instrumentation while still preserving existing investments. * Built-in packet analyzer for troubleshooting and planning NetFlow deployment and infrastructure; all other solutions require a dedicated third-party protocol analyzer. * Selective, long-term recording of NetFlow conversation records for forensic analysis via the nGenius(R) Flow Director option. * A NetFlow bypass feature that allows legacy applications (e.g. billing) to share the NetFlow data sources, avoiding router performance impacts that would otherwise be incurred to support multiple NetFlow consumers. * Unprecedented scalability and performance, through an embedded real- time operating system and unmatched configuration flexibility via the CDM Architecture. * The lowest cost of ownership, zero learning curve and small/incremental investment in the nGenius Flow Collector appliance for customers who already own the nGenius Performance Manager.

"This new offering demonstrates NetScout's commitment to leveraging all aspects of Cisco's intelligent infrastructure for optimizing network and application performance," said Michael Szabados, senior vice president of product operations for NetScout Systems. "NetFlow is a valuable data source for many applications from monitoring to capacity planning to accounting and billing, and more and more of our customers turn it on in their routers and switches. Its growing adoption justifies our increased support for it as a core component of our nGenius Performance Management Solution. With the new nGenius Flow Collector, we can better serve both those customers using NetFlow as their only instrumentation approach and those taking advantage of the full range of data sources supported through CDM(TM) Technology from MIB-II to NetFlow to NAMs to nGenius Probes."

Zeitenwende!
