SAN FRANCISCO (AFX) -- Internet stocks closed mixed Thursday after a strong start for the sector dissipated throughout the trading day.
The Dow Jones Internet Index closed off 0.1% to 93.67, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index lost 12.28 points to 2,299.56.
Net bellwethers Google Inc. Yahoo Inc. and eBay Inc. shares each lost more than 1%, while Amazon.com Inc. shares fell fractionally.
CBS Corp. shares were off fractionally as the NCAA men's basketball tournament gets into full swing. Hundreds of thousands of viewers tuned in to access the action on the Web via the network's 'March Madness on Demand' service.
Akamai Technologies Inc. , the primary CBS provider for improving digital-media delivery, saw its shares lose less than 1%.
