OSLO (AFX) - A threatened strike by tens of thousands of Norwegian industrial workers was averted following a compromise solution on wage negotiations, the NTB news agency reported.
The Norwegian United Federation of Trade Unions, which has 143,700 members, had warned that industry workers could strike on Saturday and construction workers on Sunday if negotiations on wages and pensions failed.
But both sides accepted a compromise suggested by a government-appointed mediator in overnight talks, ending the strike threat. newsdesk@afxnews.com afp/bam COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2005.
