SAN FRANCISCO (AFX) -- Ford Motor Co. plans to take a $2.4 billion charge associated with the previously announced closure of its assembly plants in St. Paul, Minn., and Norfolk, Va., the company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission late Wednesday. The pretax charge includes about $1.7 billion related to costs associated with the expected layoffs and attendant jobs bank benefits, and voluntary termination packages; a non-cash pretax charge of $425 million related to pension curtailment; and a pretax charge of $280 million, primarily non-cash, for other facility-related costs, the company said.
