FRANKFURT (AFX) - Damages to RWE AG's Niederaussen coal fired power plant in Germany from a fire yesterday are expected to be in the low double digit millions of euros, industry sources told DPA News Agency.
RWE said in a statement it has yet to determine what caused the blaze, which broke out at 1.15 am yesterday and spread to three power generating blocks before firemen extinguished it.
Two firemen were sent to hospital for smoke-inhalation, but were released yesterday.
No employees were injured.
The coal fired plant has a total of ten power blocks and a generating capacity of 3400 MW.
As a result of the fire, its short-term generating capacity will fall to 900 MW. alfred.kueppers@afxnews.com dpa/amk/cml COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2005. All rights reserved.
