JUNO BEACH, Fla. (AFX) - Utility Florida Power & Light Co. said Tuesday that Tropical Storm Alberto lashed minimal damage to its system, and it expects to restore power to all customers by the end of the night.
The utility said outages peaked at 11,000 customers from Sarasota to St. Augustine.
'We were prepared for the worst and are pleased that Alberto carried less of a punch than we anticipated,' said Geisha J. Williams, the utility's vice president of power distribution and the executive in charge of power restoration.
FPL Group Inc., the utility's parent, saw its shares close down 37 cents at $41.43 on the New York Stock Exchange.
