TORONTO (AFX) - The natural gas distribution unit of Enbridge Inc. has received approval from the Ontario Energy Board to reduce its prices by 17.5 percent, effective July 1.
Enbridge Gas Distribution delivers gas to about 1.8 million customers, including those in Toronto, Ottawa, Barrie and Niagara Falls, Ont.
Of those customers, about 60 percent buy their gas supply from the utility and the rest buy their gas through marketers.
The impact of the changes approved Thursday will vary, based on the amount of natural gas used and whether customers buy their natural gas from the utility or a natural gas marketer, Enbridge said.
In addition, a delivery charge levied by Enbridge Gas, regardless of whether the gas is bought from the utility or from a marketer, will decrease by about C$7 (US$6.30) a year, the company said.
The gas utility is a subsidiary of Calgary-based Enbridge Inc., which operates the world's longest crude-oil and liquids pipeline system.
