(Updating with Breton comments)
PARIS (AFX) - The board of French carmaker Renault will meet tomorrow to study a proposal by General Motors Corp shareholder Kirk Kerkorian to enter an alliance with GM, a company spokeswoman told Agence France-Presse.
'The Renault board will meet tomorrow and will examine Renault's interest in Kirk Kerkorian's proposal to widen the Renault-Nissan alliance to General Motors,' the spokeswoman said.
French Finance Minister Thierry Breton earlier said that Renault's board would meet in the coming hours and noted that the French state holds a 10 pct stake in the carmaker.
Breton said the government would be 'very attentive' to the 'rules of governance' in preparation for a possible alliance between Renault-Nissan and GM. newsdesk@afxnews.com afp/jlw/jlw COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2005.
