BRATISLAVA (AFX) - The leftwing winner of recent elections in Slovakia and the leaders of an extreme right-wing and a nationalist party signed a coalition agreement paving the way for them to form the next government.
Smer party leader Robert Fico signed the agreement with former prime minister, Vladimir Meciar, the leader of the nationalist Movement for a Democratic Slovakia, and Jan Slota, head of the extremist Slovak National Party, at a short ceremony.
Fico, whose party won 29 pct of the vote in elections on June 17 but fell short of a majority with 50 seats in the 150-seat parliament, said the agreement 'will be the basis for stable government in Slovakia'. newsdesk@afxnews.com afp/jlw COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2005.
