LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AFX) - Pizza delivery chain Papa John's International Inc. on Wednesday said same-store sales rose 4.9 percent in the five weeks ended June 25.
Same-store sales are a measurement for stores open at least one year -- a key gauge of retail performance.
The 4.9 percent increase included a 4.3 percent rise in same-store sales at company-owned locations and a 5 percent increase at franchise restaurants.
For the second quarter ended June 25, same-store sales rose 4.7 percent. The quarter was hurt by the Easter holiday weekend, which has lower sales volume than a typical weekend, Papa John's said. Last year, Easter fell in the first quarter.
Year to date, same-store sales climbed 4.4 percent.
Papa John's operates 2,960 restaurants in the U.S. and 24 other countries.
Papa John's fell 42 cents to end at $32.86 on the New York Stock Exchange.
