NEW YORK (AFX) - Dutch retailer Royal Ahold NV said Thursday it plans to sell 46 of its Tops supermarkets.
The stores are all located in northeast Ohio, which the company said it no longer considers to be a core part of Tops' market area, which is concentrated in New York and Pennsylvania.
The stores, located in greater Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown and Norwalk, currently employ about 3,800 full and part-time workers.
Ahold said it has hired William Blair & Company, LLC to arrange discussions with potential buyers. Financial terms weren't discussed.
Ahold currently operates 119 Tops stores in the three states.
