TORONTO (AFX) - Fun Technologies Inc., a Toronto-based online gambling company, says its wholly owned subsidiary has signed a deal to create a private label skill-gaming web site for Lycos Europe.
The Toronto company said Monday its SkillJam EU Ltd. unit will develop, operate and support the pay-for-play gaming sites for eight Lycos Europe portals in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark.
Lycos Europe, partly owned by the Bertelsmann AG global media group, is one of the biggest European portal providers with about 30 million users every month.
SkillJam develops and distributes private-label gambling software for web sites in the U.S. and abroad, including AOL, MSN's Zone.com and Virgin Games.
Lorne Abony, chief executive of Fun Technologies, and Michael Rohowski, chief sales officer for Lycos Europe, both cited European growth as the main factor driving the deal.
Fun Technologies is one of the world's biggest online casual gaming providers. The company is 51 percent owned by U.S.-based Liberty Media Corp.
