HOUSTON (AFX) - Comfort Systems USA Inc., which sells and services commercial heating and air conditioning systems, on Wednesday reported a more than 69 percent increase in second-quarter earnings, exceeding Wall Street expectations.
The company reported earnings of $7.9 million, or 19 cents per share, for the quarter ended June 30, compared with net income of $4.7 million, or 12 cents per share, last year.
Excluding the write off of debt costs, earnings from continuing operations were $5.4 million, or 13 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.
Quarterly revenues were $264.4 million, up more than 15 percent from $229.5 million last year.
Analysts polled by Thomson Financial were expecting earnings of 18 cents per share.
Shares of Comfort Systems rose 43 cents, about 3.2 percent, to close at $13.90 Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
