EVERETT, Wash. (AFX) - Zumiez Inc., a sportswear and equipment retailer, said July same-store sales rose 8.4 percent.
Same-store sales, which compare sales at stores open at least a year, is a closely watched indicator of retail strength.
Total sales in the four weeks ended July 30 added 45 percent to $19.8 million, from $13.7 million last year.
In a prerecorded call, the company said the sales gain was driven by new stores and higher sales of men's clothing.
In after-hours trading, the company's stock slipped $1.64, or 5.7 percent, to $27.35, after finishing the regular Nasdaq session at $28.99.
