SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AFX) - BMW Manufacturing Co. says it is investing $50 million for sheet metal molds at Union, S.C.-based LSP Automotive Systems.
LSP also is investing $96 million at its Union County operation and plans to add 130 new jobs.
LSP will make the molds for a new vehicle that will be produced at BMW Manufacturing beginning in 2008. Those molds form sheet metal for the vehicle's exterior.
BMW's Greer operation makes the X5 SUV and the Z4 roadster.
Published reports have said the German automaker is considering moving part of the production of a new model of the X3, a smaller SUV, to South Carolina from Austria and that the company has plans for new versions of its roadster.
